I enjoy facilitating the educational experience of students, especially as related to involving students in research. I have also served as a paid facilitator for the Instructional Skills Workshop at the Centre for Teaching & Learning, and I conduct research examining how to increase student engagement. For this work, I won the most prestigious award given to Graduate Students at the University of British for Excellence in Teaching: I was one of 16 winners (out of 2000+ graduate instructors) of the 2015-2016 UBC Killam Award.
During my BA, I founded several initiatives that I continue to be involved with today.
- UBC Student Engagement Program: A peer mentoring program designed to connect students with resources in our department: http://engage.psych.ubc.ca/.
- UBC’s Chapter of Psi Chi: An international honours society in Psychology: http://psichi.psych.ubc.ca/ (I was a founding member).
- UBC Psychology Student Association (PSA) Newsletter: Psyched! http://psa.psych.ubc.ca/newsletter/ (I started this newsletter in undergrad).
- UBC Undergraduate Peer Reviewed Journal: https://blogs.ubc.ca/ubcundergraduatejournalofpsychology/about-the-journal-2/
I have a successful track record of mentoring students toward graduate studies. Since 2013, I supervised 30+ thesis students. During my career I have written letters for and have consulted with dozens of senior undergraduate students, who are now PhD students at competitive graduate programs in the United States, Canada & Europe.
